Story

Our Story

Founded in January 1992, the Dallas Area Torah Association (DATA) began with a single vision: to build a thriving Torah community in Dallas. What started with just four kollel rabbis has blossomed into a robust organization of 27 staff and multiple divisions—each one driven by a passion for learning, connection, and Jewish growth.

DATA has helped elevate the spiritual life of the Dallas Jewish community. Through Torah classes, outreach, mentorship, and leadership development, we’ve guided thousands of Jews on their journeys—many of whom are now educators and community leaders themselves.

History

Our History

1992

DATA is Born

Rabbi Yerachmiel Fried relocated from Jerusalem to Dallas, Texas to launch DATA; with a mission to recruit young scholars to receive rabbinical degrees while providing diverse Torah educational opportunities for the broader community.

2003

Data of Plano opens new building

With the continued growth of the Jewish community, it was clear a new branch was needed to support the plethora of families moving north of the city.

2018

Data of Richardson is born

Embodying the DATA entrepreneurial spirit, and understanding the need for affordable housing to support the long term growth of Jewish families, Rabbis Avi Honigsfeld and Moshe Segal established a new community in Richardson, Texas.

2023

DATA's 30th anniversary

As the organization continued to evolve over the past 30 years, DATA continues to strive for new heights while continuing its original mission: enriching and uplifting the Dallas-area Jewish community through its various programs and branches.

2024

Our Kollel is growing!

In September 2024 the Kollel went from six Rabbis to ten with the Plano expansion! The four additional Rabbis learn in the morning and afternoon together with the other Rabbis but live and learn at night in Plano! In just a short time they have made a tremendous impact!

Anyone who has chanced upon the Kollel has seen the excitement for learning evident on every member of the Kollel’s face. The sweet sounds of Torah learning in depth day in and day out. This passion for learning and Judaism spills into everything the Kollel does—uplifting the entire community.

Over 25 classes are offered at DATA every week, as well as individual learning sessions. DATA is an inclusive resource for learning and connection through its unique non-judgmental approach to Jewish education.

The Dallas Community Kollel is the epicenter of Jewish learning for the greater DFW Jewish Community and strives to elevate and energize its constituents through immersion in Torah study.
